Well there is nice and NICE! In general the west of the central city is considered to be better places eg Fendalton, Merivale, even parts of Riccarton ( which is reasonably student based), Ilam (also close to the university but is a nice area in general). Although there are areas like Cashmere hills (south) and Parklands which are good.
Areas that are not really considered as nice would be Linwood, syndenam, parts of Papanui, Hornby, st Martins, waltham, parts of Brighton BUT within most of these places there would be nice areas and not so nice areas. You can look to areas just outside the city like Rolleston, Lincoln, Belfast or maybe Sumner (Beach)..its a matter of having a look around the place and seeing if you like it and what you want. I have lived in several parts of Christchurch, mainly as a student in Riccarton and St Albans, but I have also lived in Papanui which was ok. There are lots of substantial new areas of new buildings popping up everywhere which change the area as well. So have a look around References :
ch ch has many quiet place to live in ,,, the area depend on what rent you want to pay or buy a house in ,,,close to schools and malls etc ,,redwood , burwood , riccartion, cashmere, opawa , casebrook,, all lovely home there ,,, References :
It really depends. When we lived in Chch, my favourite area was Bexley – around Wetlands Grove. Nice houses, quiet and within walking distance to the river, library and shopping.
Another nice spot was Redcliffs, on the way to Sumner. We also had good luck in New Brighton, but it depends what part you’re in. References :
